Central State University's (Ohio) Department of Manufacturing Engineering has received $23,000 from the Boeing Co. to fund scholarships.

Miami-Dade Community College received a $13.2 million grant from the U.S. Office of Refugee Resettlement through the Florida Department of Children and Families Division of Refugee Services. The funding will support the Refugee/Entrant Education Services Training Program for the next two years to help immigrants in their transition to a democratic form of government.

Moraine Valley Community College (III.) received two Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE) Higher Education Cooperation Act (HECA) grants totaling $111,100 to promote higher education for students with limited English proficiency and to increase the number of students of color who successfully complete educational and training programs.

Spelman College (Ga.) received a $2 million grant from the Lilly Endowment Inc. to implement programs that help prepare leaders for the church and society.

Springfield College (Mass.) received a $240,000 grant from the Davis Educational Foundation to establish the Davis Center for Information Literacy over the next three years. The center will train students to access specific information through Web-based resources.

The University of Arkansas-Fayetteville received a $5 million gift from Wal-Mart Stores Inc. that will establish an endowment to support need-based scholarships at the university. The gift is the largest Wal-Mart has ever made to a U.S. college or university.

The University of Pittsburgh's Center for Minority Health received a five-year, $6 million grant from the National Institute of Health's National Center on Minority and Health Disparities. The grant will be used to create a program aimed at reducing racial and ethnic disparities in health care.
