ATLANTA
Dr. Dolores Cross, who has been president at Morris Brown College since 1999, announced plans to resign effective June 30. Cross was the first female president at the private liberal arts and historically Black college that now serves more than 2,700 students. The college is affiliated with the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
College officials said Cross is on a leave of absence, but will continue to do fund raising and other school-related duties until she leaves. Reginald Lindsay, Morris Brown's interim chief financial officer, has been named interim president.

"I feel like it's been a marathon. It's probably the toughest course I've ever been involved in. It's time. It's enough time in a presidency," Cross told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution last month.
Cross, a Newark, N.J. native, previously served as Chicago State University president.
During her tenure at Morris Brown, she has worked to improve the 121-year-old college's national profile, as well as campus facilities, technology and enrollment.
Two other Atlanta University Center colleges, Spelman College and Clark Atlanta University, also are conducting presidential searches. School officials have narrowed their applicant lists and hope to name new leaders within the next few months.
