Included are only institutions that are accredited by an organization that is recognized by the U.S. Dept. of Education. Excluded are institutions in U.S. Commonwealths and Protectorates, including Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, etc.
Degrees included in this analysis are those submitted under CIP Codes beginning with 50.09 for music. There are some other music related disciplines coded under different major disciplinary areas, such as Music Therapy, Music Teacher Education, and Musical Instrument Repair that are not included.
