Jackson state grad named Black Engineer of the Year in Government

Brigadler General Robert Cmar (right), commanding general and division engineer of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers--Sosthwestern Division, was awarded the Black Engineer of the Year Award for Professional Achievement in Government last month. The award was presented by Lieutenant General Robert Flowers (left), commanding general of the Army Corps of Engineers.
Crear led the efforts to extinguish oil well fires in Iraq and to restore full oil production to the country. In this capacity, he led over 3,100 soldiers and civilians and managed a budget exceeding $1 billion. Crear is a 1975 graduate of Jackson State University, where he received a bachelor's in mathematics. He earned a master's degree from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.
