Black Issues in Higher Education, April 7, 2005

Following are the results from the March 10 edition's poll question posted on the Black Issues Web site.

Q: Five years ago, the digital divide issue had high visibility. With less attention being paid to digital divide matters in more recent times, do you think there's less risk of the socially and economically disadvantaged losing out on opportunities related to information technology?

Responses:

14.29 %: Yes. The Internet and other technologies are widely available and inexpensive so there's little to be concerned about.

85.71%: No. The risk is as great or greater for the disadvantaged to miss out on opportunities due to lack of access and high expense of information technology.

0.00 %: No opinion.

This week's poll question:

Q: Do you believe the NCAA's new academic reform measures will help colleges and universities improve the retention and graduation rates of its student-athletes?
