WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.
Winston Salem State University officials conducted a groundbreaking ceremony earlier this month marking the start of construction on a $12.3 million computer science building on the historically Black campus in North Carolina. The facility will house the university's computer science department and the division of information resources.
The new building will provide 62,285 square feet of space to warehouse a computer file server for campus data processing, distance learning classrooms, a high-tech lecture hall, computer laboratories, a teleconference room and faculty and staff offices. The expected completion date of the construction is July 2003.
"This groundbreaking signals the continuation of the university's aggressive construction schedule for several building and renovation projects planned for our campus over the next few years," says WSSU chancellor Dr. Harold L. Martin Sr.
