TELECOMWORLDWIRE-(C) 1994-9 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD Nine companies involved in wireless communications - AT&T Wireless Services, British Telecommunications, Rogers Cantel, Ericsson, Lucent Technologies, Nokia Corp, Nortel Networks, Telenor AS and Telecom Italia Mobile - have formed a focus group to promote an IP-based wireless system for third generation (3G) mobile communications technology.

The group, called 3G.IP, hopes to develop a common evolved General Packet Radio System (GPRS) core network standard as well as corresponding standards for air interfaces and multimode terminals, to ensure compatibility among different carriers' 3G wireless communications systems and to provide customers with worldwide seamless access to 3G IP services.
