Apple has added ten new channels to its Internet-based network for streaming audio and video, QuickTime TV (QTV).

QTV now offers over 40 free news and entertainment channels from several high-profile content providers including the BBC, Bloomberg, VH1, Disney, The Weather Channel and Sony Music. QTV content can be viewed using Apple's QuickTime 4 player, available as a free download from http://www.apple.com/quicktime.> To date, over 32m downloads of QuickTime 4 software have been made.

In related news, Apple has released Darwin 1.0, an open source operating system core for Mac OS X, available now at http://www.apple.com/darwin. An open source version of Apple's QuickTime Streaming Server software, Darwin Streaming Server, will be available in May.
