TELECOMWORLDWIRE-7 April 2000-IDC finds European supply chain management yet to embrace e-business (C)1994-2000 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

IDC's latest study of the European supply chain management market has found the industry is not yet ready for the Internet.

Driving supply chain management in recent times has been globalisation and the single European market, industry consolidation, demand-driven supply chain and the 'e-business revolution'.

According to the report, security is the main issue preventing supply chain management buyers from adopting e-business practices, together with the fact that there are a large number of smaller companies in the industry who are unwilling to use the Internet instead of an electronic data interchange (EDI) as a primary business channel.

However the authors of the report are confident that this situation will not continue for much longer and IDC predicts that as the e-business revolution gains momentum throughout Europe the supply chain management industry will begin to embrace new technology as a means of doing business.
