TELECOMWORLDWIRE-10 August 2000-Microsoft Reader available as free download (C)1994-2000 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

Microsoft Corp's Microsoft Reader software is now available as a free download for desktop PCs and laptops at http://www.microsoft.com/reader/ and http://www.bn.com/ebooks/.

The software, which is designed to improve the screen resolution for easier reading, also includes a capability to purchase e-books directly from Barnes & Nobles' web site.

At the same time Barnes & Noble.com and Microsoft have opened the Barnes & Noble.com eBookStore for Microsoft Reader, an online retail bookstore said to be the first to offer commercial content for Microsoft Reader. The site, which is located at http://www.bn.com/ebook/, is expected to introduce hundreds of e-book titles from both small and large publishers.

Several publishers, including Simon & Schuster Inc, Time Warner Books and Random House Inc, are already releasing titles in the Microsoft Reader format through promotions at the Barnes & Noble site.
