Finnish media house Alma Media said today (24 August) that it intended to team up with the data operator KPNQwest and hardware supplier Cisco to offer ADSL-based residential broadband access in Finland.

Alma Media said a pilot project would be launched this autumn with full-scale marketing following in the beginning of 2001.

The new broadband connections will give households access to interactive digital television as well as to various e-services.

Under the terms of the agreement between Alma Media, KPNQwest and Cisco, Alma Media will take responsibility for marketing, customer contacts and relations with other content producers. The operation of the ADSL connections is to be managed by KPNQwest while Cisco will supply the equipment necessary to convert the existing copper telephone cables to broadband connections.
