Imagination Technologies Group Plc's Ensigma Technologies division has begun shipments of what it claims to be the first worldwide compliant adaptive multi-rate (AMR) vocoder software codec.

The new software codec is designed to provide speech encoding for digital phone applications across all the major standards - chipsets based on the codec can be run on both current networks such as T-DMA and C-DMA in the US and GSM and future 3GPP (3rd generation partnership project) networks.

The codec is available immediately for DSPG`s Oak and Teaklite processors. Pricing was not revealed.
