Ingenico and Palm Inc have unveiled plans to jointly develop an infrastructure that would enable secure payment transactions between Palm's handheld computers and Ingenico's point of sale terminals.
The technology would combine Ingenico's secure smart card-based payment systems with Palm's expertise in handheld technology.
Ingenico believes that when the virtual card payment system is fully running the outlets that will make the most use of it will include hotels, restaurants, car-rental companies and department stores.
