TELECOMWORLDWIRE-23 July 2001-Cable & Wireless to supply managed telecomms services to CGNU (C)1994-2001 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

The telecomms group Cable & Wireless Plc (C&W) and the UK insurer CGNU Plc have signed a memorandum of understanding for a communications services contract.

Under the seven-year contract CGNU would outsource the management and development of its voice and data infrastructure across more than 200 sites in Britain to C&W. All of CGNU's data and voice communications would then be migrated by C&W to a scalable Internet protocol (IP)-based network, allowing the insurance group to exploit sophisticated communications technologies, such as voice over IP and intelligent multimedia contact centres, across the organisation.

The contract is expected to be worth over GBP350m.
