Telecomworldwire, Nov 8, 2001

TELECOMWORLDWIRE-8 November 2001-Sophos offers virus protection for SMTP-based e-mail (C)1994-2001 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

The UK anti-virus software developer Sophos Plc has released the Sophos MailMonitor for SMTP, its new system designed to detect, report and disinfect viruses in e-mail sent via the Internet's standard protocol for e-mail communication.

Incorporating Sophos' virus detection technology, the software scans all e-mail before it reaches the SMTP server. If the e-mail is virus-free it is passed to the server but if a virus is detected the e-mail can be quarantined, deleted or disinfected. MailMonitor can also alert administrators as well as recipients and senders of infected e-mail if required.

MailMonitor for SMTP is available immediately for the Windows NT/2000 platform while a version for the Linux operation system is scheduled to follow shortly. Pricing was not disclosed.
