Amsterdam-registered Equant has won a three-year, USD23m contract to provide virtual private network (VPN) services to the container transportation company APL and its APL Logistics unit.

As part of the agreement Equant will deliver its Internet protocol (IP) VPN solution to APL. The system will be used to interconnect 180 APL and APL Logistics sites in 32 countries with the regional headquarters in California, allowing the businesses to integrate their voice and data communications over a single IP network. Equant's IP VPN will also enable APL and APL Logistics to prioritise critical traffic using class of service and multi-protocol label switching (MPLS).

In addition APL and APL Logistics will deploy Equant's voice over IP system for IP VPN to integrate voice, video and multimedia applications over IP.
