The smart card specialist Oberthur Card Systems has joined forces with the French-based mobile phone operator Bouygues Telecom to deliver new SIM technology to the market.

Under the partnership the companies have worked together to develop Oberthur's latest second-generation SIM cards, called SIMphonIC. These cards integrate RSA's security technology and host 64K of EEPROM user memory to provide a secure environment for conducting transactions via mobile networks, using digital signatures.

Oberthur and Bouygues will now test the cards in an electronic signature-secured mobile pilot.
