TELECOMWORLDWIRE-12 September 2001-Skygate pilots new technique that bars ripping/encoding of music CDs to MP3 format (C)1994-2001 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com
The UK-based Internet/e-commerce security consultancy Skygate Technology has launched a new technology designed to prevent music CDs from being ripped and encoded as MP3 files.
Skygate says it developed the technology because of the absence of a satisfactory audio copyright protection system, enabling MP3 files derived from copyrighted music CDs to be distributed via the Internet - in spite of the recent California court ruling stopping web users from being able to use Napster to swap copyrighted songs.
