Finnish telecomms solutions provider Nokia has been named as a key supplier for the expansion of Saudi Telecom Company's GSM network.

Nokia is to deliver its GSM 900 and 1800 base station subsystem solution and professional services including planning and implementation. In addition the company will provide its 3G-ready Nokia Ultrasite base station solution which supports GSM, EDGE and WCDMA technologies.

The contract, thought to be worth up to USD200m for Nokia, is the first awarded by Saudi Telecom Co to the Finnish company. Deliveries are due to start immediately.
