Electronics company Hitachi Ltd and IBM has received approval from the US Federal Trade Commission for the combination of both companies' hard disk drive operations.

The new company that will be formed by the combination of the hard disk drive operations from IBM and Hitachi will be called Hitachi Global Storage Technologies.

The proposed venture now has antitrust approval from the EC, the Japan Fair Trade Commission, the Conselho Administrativo de Defesa Economica in Brazil and the Fair Trade Commission in Taiwan as well as the US FTC.

No financial terms for the proposed joint venture were revealed.
