A new report has been published by the University of Ohio that aims to measure which US cities are most connected to the Internet.

The study took into account the number of fibre-optic lines into the major cities and then ranked the cities based on the number of connections for each one. The most connected city was found to be Chicago, Illinois followed by Washington DC; Dallas, Texas; Atlanta, Georgia; and New York. The city of San Francisco turned up in the list in sixth position yet the researchers claimed that if the metropolitan area around the city was also taken into consideration then it would have been ranked first.

The study has been published in the journal Environment and Planning B.
