Finland's Nokia has won a three-year, USD300m contract to expand the GSM network of the US-based mobile operator VoiceStream Wireless Corp.
Under the agreement, Nokia will supply both its core and radio access network for the expansion of VoiceStream's nationwide GSM network in the US and for the deployment of the network in new areas such as Ohio and Arkansas. Deliveries are to begin immediately.

VoiceStream is part of the T-Mobile International group, the mobile telecommunications subsidiary of German-based Deutsche Telekom, and it is the largest GSM operator in the US, according to Nokia. The Finnish company delivered a GSM network to VoiceStream in 1995 and a GPRS network in 2001.
