TELECOMWORLDWIRE-20 March 2002-Radiolinja unveils new mobile phone service (C)1994-2002 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

The Finnish mobile operator Radiolinja has developed what it claims to be the world's first standards-based commercial wireless private key infrastructure (PKI) service for mobile phones.

The WAP service, called Radiolinja WPKI, is designed to enable mobile phone users to pay for purchases or settle invoices over the Internet and to log on to, for example, banking services, network shops or the information systems of their employer with one single ID code/password combination.

Radiolinja and the Finnish credit institution Luottokunta have teamed up to introduce a new payment system for merchants and consumers before the third quarter, based on the new service. Finland's OKOBANK will also utilise the WPKI technology and Radiolinja's certificates in electronic channels for banking transactions.
