Banking group JP Morgan Chase has awarded a seven-year outsourcing contract worth USD5bn to IBM.

Under the terms of the agreement JP Morgan Chase will transfer around 4,000 employees and contractors, some resources and a number of systems to IBM in the first half of 2003. IBM will use its Blue Typhoon applications to connect JP Morgan Chase's servers, storage devices and other systems.

A spokesperson for JP Morgan Chase said that the move was designed to improve the group's technology infrastructure.
