TELECOMWORLDWIRE-7 January 2003-New accessibility standards set by W3C(C)1994-2003 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has introduced new accessibility standards for web browser applications and multimedia players.

The Agent Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 focus on enabling people with impairments and disabilities to use web browsers and multimedia players. The guidelines set out standards for several areas such as voice recognition and screen readers.

The W3C claims that the guidelines have been introduced to ensure that service providers are adhering to the Disability Discrimination Act of 1995 and have the potential to obtain the 1.1m visually impaired individuals in the UK as customers.
