TELECOMWORLDWIRE-6 March 2003-SurfControl calls for tougher spam regulations(C)1994-2003 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

Web and e-mail filtering company SurfControl has made a statement saying that the regulations on spam in the Advertising Standards Authority's (ASA) code of advertising practice are not enough.

Under the new rules companies that send out spam will have to have the permission of the recipient and also state in the subject line that they are trying to sell something. SurfControl believes that these regulations will not do enough to prevent the sending of spam as it is difficult to track down senders and investigating every violation would be impossible.

The new regulations have been introduced in response to an increase in the number of complaints that the ASA has received about unsolicited e-mails and text messages that advertise products or services.
