A new mobile music download service has been launched by mobile operator O2 that lets customers select, download and store chart and other music tracks.

Subscribers to the service will obtain the music via their handset and store it in an O2 Digital Music Player. The company has formed a partnership agreement with companies such as MTV, BMG, Universal, AIM and Warner Music International to obtain the music that is available for download.

O2 Music is available in the UK now and is expected to be launched in Germany and Ireland some time in 2004.

Downloads cost around GBP1.50 per track while the O2 Digital Music Player is priced at GBP99.99.
