Electronics company Sony has announced that an updated version of the PS2 is scheduled to be released in the UK in September 2003 with a number of extra features.
Improvements in the new version will include a built-in infrared receiver and improved DVD playback functions. Also, the console comes in the traditional black design or an alternative silver model.
The only feature that has been removed in the new version is the 1394/Firewire/iLink port.
