TELECOMWORLDWIRE-23 July 2004-June 2004 breaks the UK record for the most texts sent in one month(C)1994-2004 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

The Mobile Data Association, an industry organisation for mobile phones, has revealed that a new record was set in the UK in June 2004 for the total number of text messages sent in one month.

The organisation found that over 2.1bn text messages were sent in June 2004, up 28% from June 2003 and the sixth month in a row that saw more than 2bn text messages.

The Mobile Data Association claimed that summer music festivals such as Glastonbury and sporting events such as Euro 2004 were likely to have helped the record-breaking total for the month.

Text messaging has reportedly also been adopted by event organisers and used to make it easier for people to order tickets via their mobile phones.
