McDonald's and Sony team to offer free music downloads

An agreement has been formed between fast food restaurant chain McDonald's Corp and entertainment company Sony Corp that will see song downloads being given away with Big Macs.

The initiative is expected to run throughout the summer in North America and Europe and is intended to encourage consumers to use digital music download sites. A TV, radio and in-shop advertising campaign will be introduced in each country that is part of the initiative that features Justin Timberlake.

The companies will begin the service on 8 June 2004 in the US, Puerto Rico and Canada. France, Germany and Britain will receive the service in early July 2004.
