According to a survey by AMR Interactive, the majority of Australians are reluctant to give up their land line telephones due to the expense of mobile phones.

The survey discovered that around 90% of households were unwilling to switch permanently to a mobile phone, with 71% citing cost as the primary reason.

A further 60% of those questioned in the survey, which was commissioned by Telstra, cited the continued need for a fixed line for Internet access and 35% felt a fixed line was needed for security purposes.

AMR Interactive interviewed 1,915 people, over the age of 15 and the survey was conducted throughout January and February 2005.
