Consumer protection agencies from across the world are to join together in an attempt to launch a fresh assault on scams that are spread through spam and on the Internet.

Coordinated by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), the International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network, will launch an Internet sweep to uncover scams that are hidden in spam and on the Internet. The sweep will involve 76 agencies from 25 countries.

A spokesperson for the ACCC said that it was crucial that agencies get together to tackle fraudulent and deceptive online scams, and that scams that prey on aspirations to be desirable, rich, clever and compassionate need to be stopped.
