TELECOMWORLDWIRE-13 January 2005-America Movil joins Telefonica in battle against Mexican spectrum caps(C)1994-2005 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

America Movil, a Mexican wireless operator, has joined rival telecomms company, Telefonica Moviles, in challenging spectrum ownership limits set by the country's Federal Competition Commission (CFC).

Under new CFC rules operators are not allowed to purchase more than 35MHz at the 1900Mhz bandwidth in any of Mexico's nine wireless regions. Telefonica Moviles has already sought an injunction against the ruling claiming that it stopped them from seeking more bandwidth in the valuable Mexico City area (region 9).

Despite the legal challenges both company's have begun bidding in the auction being held by Mexico's Federal Telecommunications Commission which began on 10 January 2005, reports Dow Jones.
