TELECOMWORLDWIRE-21 January 2005-EU backs bid to end O2-Vodafone 'duopoly' in Ireland(C)1994-2005 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

The European Commission has thrown its support behind an initiative by Irish competition regulators to end what they believe is a 'duopoly' held by telecomms companies mmO2 and Vodafone in the Irish mobile phone market.

The Irish regulator has been investigating whether the two companies have been collaborating in an attempt to keep competition out of the market.

A spokesperson for the information society at the European Union said it is possible for them to collude, and that is what the investigation has found, reports AFX.
