Video streams of the return of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) shuttle are to be provided by Yahoo Inc, an Internet media company.

Live web video streams of the 12-day space mission and its return are to be made available in Microsoft's Windows Media format and can be seen through Yahoo's network of sites. The same NASA video feed will also be available at http://www.nasa.gov, streamed by Akami Technologies via RealPlayer from RealNetworks Inc. Millions of users are expected to watch the video streams from the launch on 13 July 2005.

The agreements with Yahoo and Akami are said to enable NASA to provide Internet access to the video feeds without the taxpayer incurring extra costs. This is the first space shuttle mission since NASA shuttles were grounded following the Columbia disaster in 2003.
