Plans for development of a new generation of digital cameras has been unveiled by consumer electronics company Sony and Konica Minolta Photo Imaging, a photography company.

Sony and Konica Minolta are to work together to develop the new range of digital single lens reflex (SLR) cameras. Konica Minolta is to incorporate its Dynax (Maxxum) lens mount system, which connects the body of the camera to the lens. Konica Minolta is also reported to have developed CCD Anti-Shake technology.

Sony is to bring a broad electronic technology and devices base to the venture, said to be important for CCD and CMOS imaging sensors and image processing technologies. The move to the upmarket SLR product range is expected to bring increased margins at a time when a move towards the mobile phone industry for the digital camera mass market is anticipated.
