A new version of the Connect Card from Vodafone K.K., the Japanese unit of mobile operator Vodafone, is to be introduced in September 2005.

The VC701SI Vodafone Connect Card, made by SII, is to undergo an upgrading in order to enable users to roam abroad on W-CDMA networks in 18 countries and regions in Asia and Europe. Vodafone K.K. said that users will be able to access mobile Internet abroad, through PCs or PDAs using 3G data cards. Vodafone's Connect Card is used by both business customers and individuals and is currently sold as the W-CDMA compatible VC701SI CompactFlash (Type II) data card terminal.

The upgrade is set to provide Roaming Tool software to support Windows 98SE/Me/2000/XP and Mac OS X and will allow users to roam on 20 mobile operator networks. Vodafone K.K. is reportedly to send CD-ROM upgrades, with the Firmware Upgrade Tool and Roaming Tool, to all current users of the VC701SI from early September and the same tools are to be made available for download from SSI's website.
