System-on-chip intellectual property company Imagination Technologies Group plc (LSE:IMG) has announced that IT technology company Texas Instruments (TI)((NYSE:TXN) has selected TI's OMAP2420 application to power NTT DoCoMo's new 3G FOMA 902i series handsets.

According to the company, TI's OMAP2420 incorporates the PowerVR MBX 2D/3D graphics core and programmable VGP vertex processor core licensed by TI from Imagination Technologies.

TI's OMAP2420 has been reportedly selected for the new NTT DoCoMo FOMA 902i series 3G handsets to provide advanced multimedia capabilities. The handsets, expected to launch later in 2005, will represent the first OMAP 2-based mobile devices on the market, the company claims.

Under the terms of its licensing arrangements Imagination receives license fees and royalty revenues on SoCs incorporating Imagination's IP shipped by partners. No other financial details were disclosed.
