TELECOMWORLDWIRE-11 October 2005-EWC established to promote IEEE 802.11n standard(C)1994-2005 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com
A coalition to promote the IEEE 802.11n standard development process and a technology specification for next-generation wireless local area networking (WLAN) products has been formed between 26 Wi-Fi companies, including Apple, Cisco Systems, D-Link, Intel, Sanyo, Sony and Toshiba.
The Enhanced Wireless Consortium (EWC) intends to establish a specification in order to accelerate endorsement of an 802.11n standard and introduce a system of high-performance WLAN products which conform to a set of guidelines.

The EWC specification includes mixed-mode interoperability with 802.11a/b/g networks, PHY transmission rates up to 600Mb/s, enhanced efficiency MAC with frame aggregation and use of 2.4GHz and/or 5GHz unlicensed bands. In addition, 20MHz and/or 40MHz channel support, spatial multiplexing modes for simultaneous transmission and enhanced range are featured and EWC members are working with the IEEE Task Group 'N' to facilitate the standard.
The EWC has developed a specification to help customers enjoy new wireless performance coverage, levels and interoperability before the 802.11n standard is endorsed. All members have agreed to make their relevant intellectual property available to all parties on RAND terms if the specification is endorsed by the IEE. A full list of member companies and more information on the EWC is available at www.enhancedwirelessconsortium.org.
