Merlin U740 High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA)-enabled PC Data Cards from Novatel Wireless, a provider of wireless broadband access solutions, have been shipped to carriers in Europe, with commercial volumes to be shipped before the end 2005.

The card provides wireless network connectivity from almost any global location and can be introduced by carriers as an HSDPA product or a UMTS/EDGE PC card which can be upgradeable to HSDPA over the Internet. The Merlin U740 will work on Enhanced Data Rate for Global Evolution (EDGE) networks and GSM/GPRS 900/1800/1900 MHz bands around the world and UMTS 2100 MHz bands in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

Using the Merlin U740 remote workers are able to surf the Internet, send and receive e-mail and access corporate networks securely. The card also enables the download of data-intensive attachments and access to video conferencing, audio and video streaming and advanced multimedia applications, Novatel Wireless said.
