TELECOMWORLDWIRE-9 September 2005-Adaptix reveals Manhattan OFDMA/TDD trial(C)1994-2005 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

Details of a trial of broadband fixed and mobile Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA)/TDD pre-WiMAX systems from Adaptix, an all-IP OFDMA wireless broadband access technologies provider, have been revealed.

The trial, to be conducted with NY3G Partnership, a New York-based Broadband Radio Services (BRS) spectrum licensee, is to take place in several locations on Manhattan island, beginning early next year. According to Adaptrix, the trial will allow the chance for the two companies to demonstrate the resilience of the OFDMA/TDD system in a challenging environment. It said the fully connected Internet will deliver fixed and mobile applications such as movie and music downloads, VoIP and data downloads and transfers.

The announcement of the trial follows Adaptix's recent demonstration of mobile WiMAX capabilities enabling mobile VoIP calls, large file transfer and full-length movie playback at throughput speeds of up to 2.5Mb/s. This was based on forthcoming 802.16e wireless standard technology, due for approval by the WiMAX Forum and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) by the end of 2005.
