TELECOMWORLDWIRE-12 May 2006-Amtrak selects webMethods for IT infrastructure(C)1994-2006 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com
Components of the Fabric product suite from webMethods Inc (Nasdaq:WEBM), a business integration and optimisation software provider, have been selected by US rail service operator Amtrak as the foundation for its IT infrastructure.
Amtrak is using webMethods to integrate its IT systems, synchronise data and transform existing applications into functional web services within a service-oriented architecture (SOA). The webMethods Enterprise Services Platform was chosen to develop an SOA to house a common set of web services to improve the exchange of information within and between back-end systems and customer distribution channels.

Amtrak said that webMethods will help make its business systems fully services-enabled and allow it to use existing IT assets and extend these across the whole organisation. It expects the SOA to streamline development and maintenance activities, improve time-to-market and enhance customer service by providing faster and easier access to ticketing and reservation information.
