Radio access, switching and optical solutions from Nortel, a communications solutions provider, have been selected by PT Bakrie Telecom, an Indonesian provider of fixed wireless voice and data services, for its wireless network.
PT Bakrie Telecom has selected Nortel's solutions to increase the capacity and transmission capabilities of its CDMA2000 1X network, which services 15 cities in West Java and Banten province, and Greater Jakarta. The deployment of the solutions will enable the provider to meet demand for its Esia-branded voice and fixed wireless broadband Internet, data and fax services.

Nortel will provide new CDMA Metro Cell Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) to enable cost-effective network growth and migration to Nortel's 3G 1XEV-DO CDMA infrastructure, via a card upgrade. Nortel's flexible DMS-MTX Switching Platform is being deployed at PT Bakrie Telecom's network core, to ensure a reliable, continuous service is provided for subscribers.
In addition, Nortel is providing optical solutions including its Optical Metro 4150 multi-service next-generation SDH platform, Optical TN-1X add/drop multiplexer and Optical Metro 3500 DWDM-capable next-generation SONET platform. This will ensure high-speed connectivity between the DMS-MTX and the base stations, enable efficient, transparent hand-off of calls and ensure flexible and reliable transport of services.
