Lite-On IT Corp, an optical disc drive manufacturer and part of the Taiwanese Lite-On Group, announced on Wednesday (22 November) the launch of its LH-20A1P drive, featuring 20x maximum writing speed.

Lite-On is the first brand to release a 20x DVD writer, claimed the European marketing director at Lite-On IT.

According to the company, the Lite-On LH-20A1P features DVD-RAM compatibility at 12x, and is capable of reading, writing and re-writing any disc format on the market, including DVD-RAM and Double-Layer +/- format discs. The company also plans to release a LightScribe version of the drive, the Lite-On LH-20A1H.

The Lite-On LH-20A1P is scheduled to be available in Europe at the end of December 2006. The Lite-On LH-20A1H is scheduled to be available in Europe in early 2007. No pricing details were disclosed.
