A blanket purchase five year agreement has been signed by Cingular Wireless, a provider of mobile voice and data communication services, with the US's Army, Air Force and Defense Telecommunications Services - Washington (DTS-W).

The contract will consolidate the 50,000 DTS-W, Army and Air Force subscribers of Cingular Wireless under a single agreement and the provider hopes to add thousands of new subscribers during the coming months.

The agreement will result in a single pricing structure for devices, wireless services, accessories and management options, allowing military branches to administer wireless usage more cost-effectively and efficiently.

DTS-W, Army and Air Force subscribers will be able to select wireless phones and PDAs from Cingular Wireless and access many of the provider's voice and data solutions. These will include the UMTS/HSDPA-based BroadbandConnect, BlackBerry, Push-to-Talk and support for technology such as Sectera Interoperable Security Architecture and CAC Readers, which are government specific.

A customised web portal established under the Premier programme from Cingular Wireless will enable subscribers to order devices and services and manage wireless accounts.

The value of the contract was not disclosed.
