Communications support services provider telent plc (LSE:TLNT) has been selected by O2 Airwave to support the deployment of its communications system for emergency and other public safety ('blue light') services in the UK.
The contract, worth GBP13m, will allow fire and rescue services in the UK to use O2 Airwave's new Tetra Radio Communications Service. Equipment will be installed in all fire appliances in the UK by telent, which will then offer a complete support service, ensuring a reliable communications network for O2 Airwave.

According to telent it will provide a range of services to O2 Airwave, including design services, project management, installation services, asset management, helpdesk, configuration management and on-site maintenance services, 24/7.
O2 Airwave's Firelink Programme will replace the individual radio systems of fire and rescue services in the UK with a national wide-area radio system in England, Wales and Scotland.
