TELECOMWORLDWIRE-5 April 2007-Vodafone and Sagem Communication to produce Vodafone-branded handset(C)1994-2007 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

Mobile operator Vodafone Group and Sagem Communication (SAFRAN Group), a mobile and broadband communication company, have established an agreement to produce a Vodafone-branded mobile handset.

The agreement extends Vodafone's Original Design Manufacturers' strategy, which aims to use Vodafone's size and purchasing power to work with white label handset manufacturers and bring products to market. Vodafone said the agreement will enable an affordable, high quality handset to be introduced across its markets and allow it to benefit from the European market experience of Sagem Communication.

According to the company the handset will be extra-slim, will incorporate the main GSM features and include a 65k colour screen and is due for release by June this year.

The agreement is part of Vodafone's plans to use its brand recognition for the production of a range of competitively priced, high quality handsets carrying only the Vodafone name.
