Wireless and broadband communications company Motorola Inc (NYSE: MOT) announced on Friday (29 December) that the footballer David Beckham has formally kicked off sales of Motorola's new MOTORAZR (M702iS) handset with DoCoMo in Japan.

The company said that Beckham appeared along with Japanese sportscaster Tomoaki Ogura on Best Moments in Sports 2006, Fuji-TV's year end sports programme, where Beckham showedthe MOTORAZR in each of its three colours.

In addition Beckham also unveiled a one-of-a-kind customised 'MOTORAZR tattoo keiteiby David Beckham' that will be auctioned online to raise money for UNICEF, in honour of Beckham's role as UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.

Beckham also hosted a MOTORAZR fashion show at the Roppongi Hills Arena and introduced the MOTORAZR device at the event with the help of J-Wave personality Sean K. The event concluded with Beckham kicking specially-branded black and silver MOTORAZR balls into a mosh-pit at centre-stage filled with MOTORAZR owners.

MOTORAZR is available in Japan for only two weeks. The handsets are available in Hot pink, Neo black, and Cool silver colours under the DoCoMo's 7 series.
