TELECOMWORLDWIRE-19 July 2007-AirDefense enterprise security product chosen by Cardiff University(C)1994-2007 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com
AirDefense, a provider of wireless protection, announced on Wednesday (18 July) that its enterprise security product is being deployed by Cardiff University to secure its Wireless LAN.
The contract to build the wireless network was awarded to RM, a supplier of ICT hardware, software and services. The network will cover 66 buildings across three square miles. It will include over 1,300 Access Points and cater for 30,000 students, 5,000 staff and visiting guests.

The university reportedly wants to provide maximum wireless coverage by expanding the existing wireless capability for the whole campus and outlying peripheral sites, and to ensure the service is robust, resilient and secure with the least amount of effort for ongoing management.
The required defenses for a WLAN are different from a wired network because the vulnerabilities are in the air, and the airwaves surrounding the Cardiff WLAN will be constantly monitored by AirDefense Enterprise to ensure the security of the network at the university, the company claims.
In addition, the university chose Ringmaster, a management platform from Trapeze Networks Inc, a wireless solutions provider, to centrally manage the network.
No financial details were disclosed.
