The setting up of Numonyx, a name relating to the word 'mnemonics', is expected to be completed in the second half of this year, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions, and it will be headquartered in Switzerland. Intel claimed it is working to the original timeframes and is expecting to officially launch the new company to customers later in 2007.
According to STMicroelectronics, the announcement of the new company's name enables it to begin developing an independent identity which customers will recognise in system-level memory solutions.
Numonyx is being established from the key assets of businesses which generated around USD3.6bn in combined annual revenue.
